Haulin'

Framers were haulin' today. Sheeting is nearly done on the front side of the house. They also removed most of the cross bracing from inside. Now we can see better how the inside rooms will lay out.

More Geometry

Framers put up a lot of sheeting today. That would be a good thing as roofers are scheduled to start Monday. It really looks more like a house with sheeting on the roof.

I couldn't resist shooting this from the underside of the screened porch. This will of course all get covered up but I'm showing off the skill of the framers once again. We had a meeting this morning with the plumber and Mark the electrician. The fire sprinkler guy was supposed to be here but was ill. The fall chill is in the air so it was probably better for him to stay where it's warm.

Journey

The framers continued their journey around the house today installing fascia and barge boards. Soon I hope to be taking pictures of roofers. Weather has changed and it's supposed to be showery the rest of the week.

Coming Together

The framers continue to tie roof lines together and apply sheeting as they go, at least on the north end of the house. A meeting has been put together with Josh and the window guy for Tuesday. It continues to come together.

Roofed Porch

Today the roof got framed in over the screened porch. Framed lines are getting completed on the back of the house and we are getting a more completed look. We are homing in on windows and are getting a meeting set up with those people. More things checked off the list. Diana met with F & C, the cabinet people, today so that is also in motion. She also had another visit with CFM to work on tile selections.

Post Post

Today we got posts on the front porch and enough support on top of those posts to hold a stack of sheeting for the roof. There's another stack over the back porch as well. Dormer sides also got framed in for the woman cave. Weather just needs to hold a bit longer so we can get the roofing on in the dry.

Sheeting....Hooray

Sheeting went on today over the garage and woman cave. Also in this picture is some of the fascia I mentioned in a previous post. It's nice to see the sheeting going up.
It's not an optical illusion. The roof over the dormer will actually have a curve in it. One of the character features of this house.

Tad's?

Framers continue to fill in the 'holes' in the roof and are getting closer. The scaffolding is coming down inside the house too. We made another trip to George Morlan and just about have the plumbing list finalized. Too many decisions for my brain to process. Josh was by this afternoon measuring all the windows so we can get that finalized too. Yesterday we ate dinner at Tad's Chicken and Dumplings in Troutdale in celebration of my sister Diane's birthday. I had never eaten there but would now recommend it to anyone who is out that direction. One side of their neon sign has a problem and the end result is 'Tad's Chic Dump'. Been that way for years and they won't fix it because of the novelty. They even had Tad's Chic Dump t-shirts made up. The whole event was fun.

Fascination

All of the rafters that were leaning up against the house yesterday are now in place. Of course many more are now cut so the roof framing can be completed. Where peaks and valleys come together a collection of geometry occurs. I am obviously fascinated with it.
This is the north end of the house. It hasn't been pictured much but it shows the layout on this end of things as well as how the garage roof is coming together. Today Diana and Deb spent over four hours at Globe Lighting discussing........well.........lighting.

Beams And Rafters

Ridge beams were put in over the garage and great room area today as well as more rafters. The framers have cut a bunch of rafters that will be placed tomorrow.

Rafter Fill In

Today the gable ends on the garage got framed in. The main roof also got filled in with rafters on the front. Progress continues to be made. A lot of email now between Josh and us getting ready for the next steps on the project. I visited Lakeside Lumber to take advantage of their showroom. They do have it together.

Who's Cave?

Today the last two gable ends were started over the garage and some of the framing for the bonus room. It's turning out to be a true bonus as the room has been renamed the 'woman cave'. The added height of this room has given us a new view we just didn't have from the old house and Diana is claiming this room as her own. The framing above will hold that new view to the southeast.
This window is the view to the northwest. There are already furniture plans being put in place for this area.

The garage roof line is starting to complete the look of the front of the house. Framers are getting closer to completing their part of our project.

Back Porch

Framing continued on the back porch area today. It is decked so we can walk out on it. The back of the house is getting filled in and taking shape. We spent a few more hours at George Morlan over the weekend and we have almost all of our plumbing fixtures selected and on the list. Yup, we are over budget.

Porches

Today the framers worked on porches. The upper porch on the back of the house is framed as well as the screened porch. The steps that go up to the bonus room also had treads applied. Temperature got up into the 90's today so they are still working in the heat. It should start to cool off now. The good news with the warm weather is that the last rainfall has been totally dried out of the house. Josh will be back next week. Hope he got everything done on his house he set out to do.

Bonus?

On the garage today floor joists were put in place and then the decking for the floor of the bonus room. The stairs up to this room are also in place except for the treads. So for now it's a bonus floor but they will make it a room soon.

Rafting

More roof rafters were placed today and things are shaping up. Floor joists were delivered today also. They will go over the garage to support the bonus room. I made another visit to Lakeside Lumber and picked up samples of fascia material. Nothing more exciting than picking fascia material. I had no idea until this project how many different materials can be used for something that will mostly be covered up by a gutter. This has become quite an education and I'm actually enjoying it.

Number 7

The seventh gable was put in place today with sheeting. Sheeting was also completed on the sixth one on the north end of the house. Each day now it's looking more like the house on the plans.

New Heights

A lot of labor was done today on Labor Day. The gable end on the north end of the house was put up and roof framing on the main peak was started. I am appreciative of the framers working today as it will be nice to get it sealed up before we get into fall weather for real. We spent several hours today at George Morlan Plumbing. We are working our way through the selection of faucets, tubs, etc. We got some of it done today but we have much more to get on the list.

Saturday Labor

The framers worked Saturday. They put more sheeting on the house and garage. Scaffolding was built and the first beams put in for the porch on the back of the house. Rain is settling dust but creating mud. Weather is supposed to clear back up just in time for the end of the Labor Day weekend.

Sans Screens

The screened porch was decked today so we have a porch but no screens yet.
The rest of the garage walls were framed up today so things are visually coming together. We also had a meeting this morning with Josh and the landscaper. Dirt is being moved around the house and lawn areas and we wanted to make sure the landscaper was involved. Sam was not here today but he'll be happy Tuesday. He says moving dirt is what he lives for. I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend.

More Mud

More concrete was poured today and we now have a garage floor. They also poured the front porch, back porch and the loggia.
Framers also put up more of the garage walls. They will be back at full strength tomorrow and on their way again.

Where's Phil

Framers are getting the garage framed in. Phil was on another job today but Wade and Eddie were back at it.
From Laughlin Road the house is taking shape nicely. Loggia adds a lot and when the screened porch is built on top of it, it will complete the feature. I probably should thank our neighbors for providing the picturesque vineyards.

Last And First

The last outside wall, which is also the first wall of the garage, was put up today. The floor had to be extended on this end of the house. Something to do with the garage foundation poured next to the house foundation.
Areas were filled where concrete will be poured including the loggia, lower back patio and front porch. We are getting closer.
